Are you deciding whether it is worth taking out accident insurance? We have prepared five questions to which you should know the answer. Answering them will help you decide whether the helmet is beneficial for you.

What events do you want to protect yourself and your vehicle against?

Accident insurance is different from compulsory contractual insurance ( PZP ). Voluntary. Therefore, the fundamental question of why you should close it (?) comes to the fore. The answer is simple. Close the insurance to protect your vehicle and yourself from damages other than those covered by PZP.

Accident insurance for a car is taken out by default mainly for the following principal risks:

  • Accident – due to own fault or someone else’s fault,
  • theft of the entire vehicle or its part (wheels, discs, car radio, luggage and others),
  • vandalism – damage to the car by the deliberate action of a third party, break-in or robbery,
  • natural events include hail, windstorm, flood, lightning strike, fire, tree fall, landslide, etc.

In addition, you can have other additional risks insured, such as injury to the vehicle crew, damage to the windshield, collision with animals, luggage and many others. Accident insurance also includes assistance services for accidents, breakdowns, damage or theft of the car, or other problems with the vehicle’s drivability.

Is collision insurance for an older car worth it?

There is a tradition among drivers driving that accident insurance for vehicles older than 5-6 years is not worth it. However, this is not the case in general. You can consider this limit as indicative of lower and middle-class vehicles.

However, if you own a more luxurious car, the accident insurance will pay off even for an older one, for example, a 7-year-old car. Its price is maintained longer. In this case, it is not even the age itself but rather the vehicle’s market value.

For cheaper types, taking out an insurance policy is already a consideration. With a 10-year-old car, the insurance is not worth it. And not only because of the amount of the procedure itself but also the amount of the deductible. In addition, most insurance companies will not insure your car over 12 years old.

Therefore, insurance is worth taking out, especially for more expensive vehicles. On the contrary, it is not worth it for those whose value is already low, and there is practically no damage to the car you would have no problem paying for.

What amount of co-payment do you want?

The co-payment defines the amount by which you will participate in any damages. For example, if you have a deductible of 100 euros and replacing the broken glass will cost you 99 euros, you will not receive anything from the policy. If the damage is 150 euros and the deductible is 100 euros, the insurance company will refund you 50 euros.

There is also a so-called zero deductible, in which the insurance company covers the total amount of the damage, and you, therefore, do not participate in the resulting damage. However, such insurance is the most expensive of all types. It is true that the higher the co-payment you have agreed to, the lower the price of the insurance premium.

Is supplementary insurance to PZP or accident insurance more advantageous?

If you have an older vehicle, supplementary insurance to PZP can be a suitable alternative to accident insurance. Today, they cover almost all risks, like the helmet itself. For example, you can insure against damage to the windshield, a collision with an animal, or damage to the vehicle due to a natural event. You can also guarantee the driver and the crew.

As a rule, you will pay less for supplementary insurance than accident car insurance. However, the coverage for individual risks tends to be significantly lower with additional insurance. Therefore, carefully consider which alternative is more advantageous for you. Compare the conditions of supplementary insurance and accident insurance in advance.

5 How can you get the best car accident insurance?

You must have noticed that the prices of accident insurance policies differ in individual insurance companies. This is because when calculating insurance premiums, insurance companies consider various parameters, for example, the car’s age, brand or technical condition, but also your age, location, damage-free course and so on.

Accident insurance products cover various risks and scope of coverage, amount of deductible, the content of assistance services and many other conditions.
